WHITE | BEAR

BC’s Great Bear Rainforest is 21 million acres and is the largest temperate rainforest in the world. It is home to grizzly bears, coastal wolves, salmon and the rare white Kermode or “Spirit” Bear, which exists nowhere in the world besides this rainforest. Protecting habitat of this “umbrella species” will protect many other species. A globally significant conservation effort is underway so that this rainforest can thrive for future generations.

Please help us support this effort. Fifteen percent of sales from this wine will be donated to marine and rainforest conservation in the Great Bear Rainforest by WWF-Canada (World Wildlife Funds and Tides Canada – White Bear Fund and other partners.

WWF-Canada (World Wildlife Fund)

The WWF is undertaking marine and freshwater conservation activities in and near BC’s Great Bear Rainforest. The main initiatives through WWF-Canada, which we are supporting include:

• Mapping the Active River Network for the Kalum, Copper and Lakelse Watersheds, the key ecosystems for the Spirit Bear’s main food source – Pacific Salmon, which is crucial for future freshwater conservation programs

• Identifying and mapping eelgrass habitat, this constitutes a significant intertidal range for the Spirit Bear, and provides a fertile environment for salmon which are a main source of food for Spirit Bears.

Tides Canada – White Bear Fund

The Tides Canada—White Bear Fund supports environmental work undertaken by the Rainforest Solutions Project (RSP). The Rainforest Solutions Project is a joint initiative of ForestEthics, Greenpeace Canada, Sierra Club of Canada, BC Chapter and the Rainforest Action Network. It promotes conservation options and economic alternatives to industrial logging on British Columbia's Central Coast, North Coast and Haida Gwaii.
